As the process of drug development becomes more and more complex and costly, many companies are turning to sources outside their organization for a technological leg-up. At the same time, as certain fields in biotechnology become ever more specialized, researchers have had to turn abroad to find colleagues working on complimentary technologies. Embracing this trend of internationalization and cross-border partnerships, JETRO in conjunction with BIOCOM (Southern California's La Jolla-based biotechnology trade organization) and JPMA-West (Japan Pharmaceutical and Medical Association West) held an event in La Jolla on the afternoon of February 26th to explore the benefits and potential for U.S.-Japan partnerships in the field of biotechnology. The event featured 9 speakers and was attended by close to 100 people, including representatives of over 30 Japanese and Japanese-American companies. |

ここロサンゼルスにおいて、1月29日から一週間かけて｢LA Tech Week｣が開催された。これはロサンゼルス・カウンティ（郡）が主催となり、同地域の技術を核とした起業家や企業の発展を支援するものであり、テクノロジー・コミュニティーに大きく貢献した個人や団体を称える授賞式をもって始まった。
